Thank you to all families who joined us for our Welcome Evening on Tuesday 24th March. It was a pleasure to welcome you to Tapton and share information about supporting students as they move into secondary school. For those who were unable to attend, we hope the summary below is helpful.
What is Tapton like?
Our Co-Heads of School, Ms Grewal and Ms Siddell, shared Tapton’s strong values of caring for each other, valuing everyone and striving for excellence. Families were introduced to the Tapton Seven, which guide behaviour, learning and relationships across the school. These help ensure clear expectations, a positive learning environment and a strong sense of belonging for all students.
We also highlighted the wide range of academic opportunities, clubs, enrichment activities and experiences available to help students grow in confidence and enjoy school life.
Behaviour and student support
Mr Johnson, our KS3 Behaviour Lead, explained how Tapton’s behaviour approach is based on clear routines, consistency and positive relationships. Good behaviour, effort and achievement are recognised and celebrated.
Students are supported every day by form tutors, year teams and pastoral staff, ensuring they feel safe, supported and ready to learn.
Transition from primary to secondary school
Ms Cawrey, our KS2–3 Transition Lead, outlined how we support students and families throughout the transition year. Our programme includes:
- Visits to primary schools
- Extra transition support for SEND students
- Main transition days in July
- Opportunities for students to meet their form tutors
- Regular communication with families
Our goal is to help every student settle into Tapton with confidence and feel prepared for secondary school.
Key practical information
Families were also given information about:
- School uniform and equipment
- Using ParentPay for meals, trips and events
- Applicaa, which we use to collect student information
- The school’s mobile phone policy
- The important role families play in supporting routines, learning and wellbeing
