Art & Design at Tapton School provides students with a rich and engaging creative education that develops technical skill, cultural understanding and personal expression. The curriculum encourages students to explore a wide range of techniques and media, study influential artists and designers, and build confidence through recording, refining and developing their ideas.

Students investigate formal elements such as line, colour, form and texture, complete projects inspired by both historical and contemporary artists—including organic forms, Yorkshire landscapes and non‑Western cultural artefacts—and take part in enriching experiences such as gallery visits and arts competitions. Overall, the subject aims to nurture creativity, critical thinking and individuality while ensuring all students can meaningfully engage with the wider world of art and design.
